At present, the institute employs about 250 people, its staff includes 13 Doctors of Science and 46 Philosophy Doctors, 7 full members and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and the International Academy of Mineral Resources as well as 9 laureates of state prizes (Russian government, Council of Ministers and Mingeo USSR prizes), 2 laureates of A.N. Kosygin prize, 2 honored workers of science and technology and 6 honoured geologists of the Russian Federation, 23 honorary subsurface exploring workers and 49 excellent subsurface exploring workers.
