A delegation of Chinese geologists visits FSBI TsNIGRI

On April 16-18, 2018, the VIII International scientific and practical conference, "Scientific and methodical basics of diamond, precious and base metal deposit forecasting, prospecting and evaluation”, was held in FSBI TsNIGRI. More than 180 participants including representatives of Rosnedra and top scientific and industrial geological organizations made presentations on mineral base reproduction, and forecasting-mineragenic and exploration activities. For the first time, the conference was attended by representatives of the People's Republic of China: geologists from the China Geological Survey, the University of Geosciences, the Institute of Mineral Resources and other organizations.

The delegation included 13 geologists from six Chinese organizations. China University of Geosciences in Beijing was represented by 5 experts including academician Zhao Pengda, Professor Chen Jianping, researcher Lin Fang and two postgraduate students. The China Geological Survey was represented by three divisions: Pang Zhenshan, Director of the Center for Science and Development, and Cheng Zhizhong, Deputy Director; Jin Ruoshi, Professor of the Tianjin Geological Exploration Center, and Liu Jianzhong, Professor of the Bureau of Mineral Resource Geology, Exploration and Development of Guazhu province. The delegation also included Xiao Keayn, Professor from the Institute of Mineral Resources, and Professor Chen Jianguo and Wang Chengbin. representatives of the Chinese University of Geosciences in Wuhan.

Before the official opening of the conference, S. Aksenov, Deputy Head of Rosnedra, and FSBI TsNIGRI management held a meeting with Chinese experts.

As part of the conference, Chinese colleagues made 11 presentations (6 oral, 3 poster and 2 remote) covering a wide range of issues relating to mineral resources exploration and study. The presentation by academician Zhao Pengda highlighting modern features of geological research, was included in the plenary session program (April 16). On the second conference day, Professor Xiao Keyan from the Institute of Mineral Resources made an overview presentation on the latest technologies used to estimate China's mineral resources. A detailed presentation on geochemical mapping of 76 chemical in China was made by Professor Cheng Zhizhong from the Center of Science and Development of the China Geological Survey. The attendants showed great interest in the presentation by Wang Huanfu, a postgraduate student of the Chinese University of Geosciences, where he described the results of 3-D deep ore horizons metallogenic forecasting for the Dashui gold deposit.

The final stage of the Conference was a geological trip, which was attended by 9 representatives of the Chinese delegation. The field trip program included a visit to two typical copper deposits of the Urals. Sibayskoye and Mikheevskoye deposits of the Ural metallogenic region are typical regional examples of the world's top geological and economic copper deposit types, pyrite and porphyry copper. In preparation for the trip, a guidebook was compiled, which reflects the main aspects of the geological deposit structure and the region as a whole, and the development history.

The trip was mainly intended to share experience with foreign colleagues, present the features of copper ore prospecting, exploration, production and processing and discuss potential further cooperation in this area.

On April 20-21, 2018, representatives of the Chinese delegation accompanied by FGBI TsNIGRI experts (E.E. Kotelnikov, N.I. Tatarko) visited the Mikheevskoye and Sibayskoye deposits, in particular the pit, mine bottom, ore stockpile, core warehouse, processing plant (the main units for of copper concentrate production) and geological museums of deposits. Chinese colleagues appreciated the production level at the deposits.

According to Chinese colleagues, the scientific conference level is comparable to that globally, and field trips to the unique deposits make Russian conferences very attractive to foreign experts. FGBI TsNIGRI plans to expand international participation in the next conference.
