ION SORPTION METHOD OF LITHOCHEMICAL PROSPECTING FOR CONCEALED POLYMETALLIC DEPOSITS

Concealed polymetallic deposits of Rudny Altai, East Trans-Baikal region and Salair ridge are revealed from the surface using ion sorption method by ore, associated, petrogenic and siderophile element haloes.

Superimposed dispersion haloes are located from loose cover surface above polymetallic orebodies occurring at 200-250 m depth as well as those overlain by 100-110 m thick far-supplied deposits.

Based on the contrast of the identified anomalies, ion sorption prospecting method is more informative compared with conventional lithochemical survey.

Involving a complex of ore, petrogenic and siderophile elements reflecting ore and circum-ore metasomatic processes greatly improves forecasting reliability due to summing up “prospecting inputs” of the three independent criteria groups.

The extent of sorption salt haloes is three times as much as that of haloes identified by conventional lithochemical survey which allows geochemical prospecting over a sparce sampling grid.

Costs of ion sorption (ICP MS analysis) and conventional (emission spectral analysis) surveys are comparable due to sample decrease (real geological results are unaffected), sampling from the minimum depth and standardized sample preparation technology.
