TECHNOLOGY OF LOCALIZING AREAS PROSPECTIVE FOR PRIMARY DIAMOND SOURCE IDENTIFICATION

TsNIGRI developed a technology of localizing different-scale areas (potentially diamondiferous subprovinces, fields, body groups) prospective for primary diamond sources. There are three stages of area localization.

  • Diamond prospective areas are localized on the basis of geological and geophysical preconditions (indirect factors, criteria). Position and boundaries of these areas are predefined.
  • Prospective areas revealed by indirect factors are sorted based on the available direct diamond potential evidence such as kimberlite indicator mineral haloes, diamond placers or their separate occurrences; features of dispersion halo and placer formation are studied to establish their consanguinity with the identified area.
  • Recommendations are developed for appropriate prospecting activities within a prospective area (site) considering area study level features.

The technology was used in localizing areas prospective for primary diamond sources in the Northwestern federal district and prospecting for unconventional Triassic diamond deposits in the northern Olenek rise (Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)).
